LG Manoj Sinha Targets Narco-Terrorism Nexus as Two Heads of Same Snake in Kupwara
SRINAGAR, May 13, 2026: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today participated in the Nasha-Mukt Jammu Kashmir Campaign padyatra in Kupwara, where he addressed a public gathering on the critical link between narcotics and regional instability.
Manoj Sinha characterized the struggle against drugs as a long-term battle, asserting that narcotics and terrorism are not separate issues but rather two heads of the same snake, where drug profits are directly used to fuel terrorist activities. He noted that a neighboring country is financing terror through smuggling operations, using both substances and money to target innocent residents.
By dismantling these networks, the administration aims to cut the primary lifeline that sustains terror groups in the region.Over the past 32 days, the civil and police administration has executed a significant crackdown on the drug smuggling ecosystem, which Manoj Sinha described as a growing revolution against narcotics.
Consistent government action has led to the arrest of over 730 smugglers and peddlers, the confiscation of assets worth crores, and recommendations to cancel the passports of 15 high-profile smugglers. In the border district of Kupwara and Handwara alone, 28 smugglers are currently in custody.
Every local police station has been directed to compile detailed information on active peddlers to launch decisive operations within the next 68 days.Manoj Sinha emphasized that what began in April as a government initiative has transformed into an organic mass movement with widespread participation across schools, colleges, and neighborhoods.
While the administration intends to intensify its crackdown on traffickers, the Lieutenant Governor also stressed the importance of compassion for victims of addiction. He urged stakeholders to treat those trapped in narcotics as individuals needing rehabilitation and mainstream support.
To aid this effort, officials have been instructed to act swiftly on tips received through the Manas portal and toll-free numbers, ensuring that the fight against drug smuggling remains a collaborative effort between the government and the public.
