Indian Army Conducts Joint Flood Relief Exercise Jal Aapda in Tawang
TAWANG, May 13, 2026: The Gajraj Corps of the Indian Army successfully conducted a two-day joint flood relief exercise, Jal Aapda, in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, from May 11 to 12.
Carried out in close coordination with the District Administration, NDRF, SDRF, NCC cadets, NGOs, and CAPFs, the initiative aimed to bolster regional preparedness against rain-induced landslides and mudslides. The exercise was strategically held in a mountainous terrain vulnerable to natural calamities due to its proximity to the Nyamjang Chu and Tawang Chu river systems.
The program integrated critical lessons learned from previous major landslides in similar terrains, applying them to realistic debris-slide scenarios.
During the event, Incident Response Teams provided live demonstrations of coordinated rescue, evacuation, and relief operations.
This collaborative effort served to strengthen inter-agency synergy and enhance rapid response mechanisms, reaffirming the commitment of the Indian Army to effective disaster management and the safeguarding of lives in high-altitude regions.
