New Generation Fast Patrol Vessel ICGS Akshay Commissioned Into Indian Coast Guard Fleet

PANAJI, JUNE 27: The Indian Coast Guard marked another milestone in its force modernization with the official commissioning of ICGS Akshay, a new-generation Fast Patrol Vessel, at Goa Shipyard Limited.

Named Akshay, meaning Indestructible, the vessel embodies the enduring spirit, resilience, and unwavering commitment of the Coast Guard toward safeguarding the maritime interests of the nation. The state-of-the-art ship is fully equipped to undertake a wide range of critical operations, including maritime law enforcement, coastal security, search and rescue, marine environmental protection, and emergency assistance to mariners in distress, thereby significantly enhancing India’s coastal defense capabilities.

The vessel was formally commissioned by Parama Sen, Additional Secretary (Personnel) from the Department of Expenditure under the Ministry of Finance. The ceremony was attended by Inspector General Bhisham Sharma, Commander of Coast Guard Region (West), Inspector General Jyotindra Singh, Deputy Director General (HRD), alongside senior dignitaries from both Central and State Governments.

Entirely designed and constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited, ICGS Akshay represents a significant achievement in indigenous shipbuilding and aligns with the national commitment to self-reliance.

The successful induction of the vessel further strengthens the domestic shipbuilding ecosystem and fortifies operational readiness across India’s vast maritime domain.
