J&K Weather Alert: Meteorological Department Predicts Extremely Heavy Rainfall in Reasi and Udhampur; Flash Flood Advisory Issued
SRINAGAR JULY 19, 2026 : The Meteorological Department (MET) Srinagar has issued a severe weather advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across several districts between July 19 and July 23. According to the weather forecast, the region will remain generally cloudy with frequent spells of rain and thundershowers at most places. A few districts are expected to experience brief but intense torrential downpours, with extremely heavy rain specifically projected for Reasi and Udhampur in the Jammu Division during late afternoon, evening, and early morning hours. The intense weather system is likely to taper off slightly between July 24 and July 27, shifting to scattered rain and thundershowers at a few locations alongside brief intense spells.
In light of the heavy precipitation, the MET department has sounded an alert for vulnerable areas due to the high probability of flash floods, landslides, and mudslides. Authorities have warned of a significant rise in water levels across major rivers and sub-basins, which could lead to waterlogging and minor flooding in low-lying areas. The heavy to very heavy rain advisory is particularly active for late afternoon, evening, and night/morning hours across major Jammu division districts, including Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Ramban, and Kishtwar. Residents and travelers are advised to exercise extreme caution near hilly terrains and water bodies over the next few days.
