West Bengal and Sikkim Directorate NCC mourns the loss of decorated veteran and former cadet Jalaruha Chatterjee

KOLKATA, June 5, 2026—The 2nd Bengal Battalion NCC, operating under the aegis of the West Bengal and Sikkim Directorate, conducted the last rites of distinguished former Under Officer Jalaruha Chatterjee in Kolkata.

A highly decorated cadet from the 1950s, he had brought laurels to his unit by winning both the Best Cadet Medal and the Best Under Officer Cup.

Following his time in the NCC, he went on to serve the nation directly as a Lieutenant in the Charlie Company of the 2nd Battalion, The Rajput Regiment of the Indian Army, fighting valiantly during both the 1965 and 1971 wars.

The veteran passed away on May 31, 2026, following a brief illness. His lifelong legacy of disciplined service and commitment to the country continues through his family, as his son currently serves as the NCC Coordinator at Adamas World School.

In an official tribute, the battalion saluted the late officer, honoring a long life deeply defined by duty, honor, and dedication to the nation.
