Jammu Police Arrest Vehicle Owner and Driver Following Matador Crash
JAMMU, Aug 10 — Jammu Police have arrested the owner and driver of a passenger matador after an accident near the Super Specialty Hospital left 33 people injured on Sunday night. Authorities confirmed that the 16-seater vehicle was severely overcrowded, carrying 38 passengers—mostly teenagers and children—at the time of the crash.
Investigators stated that the accident resulted from rash and negligent driving while carrying more than double the vehicle’s permitted capacity. All injured occupants were transported to Government Medical College Jammu for treatment, and law enforcement officials seized the matador as part of the ongoing investigation.
The incident has highlighted growing concerns over traffic violations and passenger safety practices across the region. Local authorities confirmed that the vehicle remains in police custody while further legal proceedings and investigations into the safety breaches continue.
