NCC organizes Cyclothon 2026 to celebrate 79 years of independence
New Delhi, August 2: The National Cadet Corps organized Cyclothon 2026 in New Delhi on Sunday to commemorate 79 years of India’s independence.
The initiative aimed to inspire youth toward fitness, environmental responsibility, and sustainable living while reinforcing values of patriotism, discipline, and unity. The event was flagged off by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, alongside Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, boxer Mary Kom, and tennis player Leander Paes. Director General of NCC Lieutenant General Virendra Vats led 79 NCC cadets on a symbolic 79-kilometer ride starting and finishing at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium after covering key landmarks across the capital.
Organized under the theme Clean India, Green India, Fit India, the rally reaffirmed the commitment of the corps to national programs including TB Mukt Bharat, Swachh Bharat, Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, and Har Ghar Tiranga. The event encouraged citizens to adopt cycling as an eco-friendly mode of transport to reduce carbon emissions and build healthy habits. Beyond sports, the cyclothon served as a platform to spread awareness regarding road safety, physical fitness, and civic responsibility, motivating young citizens to serve as active ambassadors for a healthier and greener nation.
