3,975 Vehicles Cross Chenani Nashri Toll Plaza in 9 Hours After Highway Restoration Says Shubam Yadav Project Director NHAI

Udhampur , August 1, 2026 :- A total of 3,975 vehicles crossed the Chenani Nashri toll plaza in a span of nine hours following the successful restoration of traffic along the highway. National Highways Authority of India Project Director Ramban Shubam Yadav confirmed that the cleared traffic, recorded between 11 AM and 8 PM in both directions, included over 1,300 heavy motor vehicles as travel conditions steadily improved.

The critical transit corridor had faced severe disruptions due to continuous heavy rainfall that began on July 18. A major landslide and road upheaval struck the Dewal region near Ladha on July 26. NHAI teams cleared the stretch within hours to ensure smooth movement for commuters and the Amarnath Yatra, bringing two-lane traffic back online by July 27.

Traffic was temporarily halted on July 31 to execute road widening works, but severe downpours on the same day caused further hill destabilization and left the road surface uneven. Restoration crews managed to re-open single-lane access late that night, and full two-lane traffic on an improved road surface was successfully restored by 12:30 PM on August 1.
