Minister Satish Sharma urges youth to lead drug-free India movement at Aarohan 2026

SRINAGAR, MAY 13 — Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Youth Services & Sports, Information Technology, and Science & Technology, Satish Sharma, called upon the nation’s youth to act as torchbearers for an empowered and drug-free India during the closing ceremony of Aarohan 2026.

Addressing over 300 participants from nine States and Union Territories, the Minister praised the Department of Youth Services & Sports for organizing the national-level event in Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that the festival’s theme, “Rise, Shine and Conquer,” served as a vital platform to showcase the leadership potential and innovative energy of young minds through initiatives like the Young Leaders Dialogue and Hackathons.

The Minister expressed serious concern regarding the rising threat of drug abuse, describing it as a destructive force that targets schools and neighborhoods across the country. He warned that peer pressure or curiosity could derail a lifetime of promise and urged the youth to protect their ambitions from the trap of addiction.

Highlighting the inclusion of drug de-addiction themes in the festival’s Hackathon, he noted that youth-led innovation and awareness campaigns are essential tools for societal transformation. He appealed to the younger generation to serve as ambassadors for rehabilitation and support within their local communities.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to youth development, Satish Sharma identified sports as a powerful weapon against addiction, fostering discipline, resilience, and self-confidence. He pledged to continue strengthening sports infrastructure across all districts of Jammu and Kashmir to provide healthy alternatives for growth.

While noting the expansion of de-addiction centers and firm legal action against drug networks, the Minister maintained that victory depends on collective participation from families and teachers.

He concluded by urging the youth to dedicate themselves to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, stating that the future of the nation rests on their determination and brilliance.
