Jammu & Kashmir Police Prepare for Major Crackdown on Regional Drug Trafficking Networks

SRINAGAR, April 14, 2026 :- The Jammu and Kashmir Police department is set to escalate its enforcement strategies against narcotics distribution across the region.

Inspector General of Police VK Birdi confirmed on Tuesday that authorities are transitioning into an even more aggressive phase of their anti-drug campaign.

While the force has maintained a consistent focus on these issues, Birdi emphasized that the coming days will see a significant increase in legal actions specifically targeting the individuals responsible for smuggling and selling illegal substances within local communities.

During a recent public gathering, the Inspector General pointed out that the primary goal of this intensified mission is to dismantle the networks that facilitate drug trafficking. He noted that the speed and scale of police intervention will rise to ensure that smugglers and peddlers face immediate legal consequences.

Beyond enforcement, Birdi addressed the younger generation directly, describing them as the backbone of the nation’s future. He urged young people to maintain personal discipline and avoid the destructive path of substance abuse to ensure their long-term success.

The police official also took the opportunity to engage with the local Sikh community during their celebrations of the Khalsa Panth foundation day. While visiting a Gurudwara upon the invitation of its management, Birdi offered his respects and extended formal greetings on behalf of the entire police force.

He highlighted the cultural importance of the occasion, noting that his presence was a gesture of solidarity and respect for the community on such a significant and holy day.
