Jammu Celebrates Tawi Mahotsav As Lieutenant Governor Dedicates Rs 156 Crore Riverfront To Public
JAMMU, APRIL 14: -On the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha officially dedicated the first phase of the Tawi Riverfront Project to the people of Jammu.
Developed by Jammu Smart City Limited at a cost of Rs 156 crore, the project features extensive promenades on both the left and right banks, along with a central island. These areas provide four continuous stretches specifically designed for walking, jogging, and cycling, offering a modern urban space that harmonizes with the city’s natural landscape.
The Lieutenant Governor highlighted that this initiative is part of a broader vision to create inclusive and accessible spaces that blend Jammu’s rich traditions with contemporary infrastructure.
A significant spiritual highlight of the new development is a dedicated ghat area designed specifically for the sacred Tawi Aarti. During the three-day Tawi Mahotsav, the Lieutenant Governor joined citizens in performing the Aarti and emphasized the cultural importance of the river to the identity of the “City of Temples.”
He noted that for millennia, Jammu has been a hub for spiritual and artistic legacies, and the new riverfront serves as a living metaphor for this heritage. To further enhance the area, a new project was launched to develop green spaces along the top promenade of the Left Bank, which aims to turn the riverfront into a vibrant hotspot for both local residents and visiting tourists.
In addition to the recreational upgrades, the Lieutenant Governor laid the foundation stone for a crucial four-lane connecting road and bridge. This project is intended to decongest one of the city’s most critical traffic stretches by directly linking the Bhagwati Nagar rotary with Jewel Chowk.
Looking toward future growth, the administration also announced plans under the Urban Challenge Fund to extend the riverfront from Bikram Chowk Bridge to Har Ki Paudi.
These ongoing efforts are expected to transform the Tawi banks into a premier economic and recreational hub, ensuring that the city’s development continues to honor its priceless inheritance while serving the needs of the next generation.
