Indian Army UN Peacekeepers Prevent Major Tragedy During Goma Fire Emergency
GOMA, APRIL 14:- Indian Army UN peacekeepers from the Indian Rapid Deployment Battalion (INDRDB) acted with remarkable speed to contain a dangerous fire in the Bujovi Quarter of Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo.
The blaze, which was sparked by an electrical short circuit, quickly threatened a densely populated residential neighborhood as it spread through three adjoining houses.
Stationed at the BFI–CHU Camp, the Indian troops mobilized immediately upon receiving the alert, reaching the scene before the fire could engulf the entire block and cause widespread destruction.
Upon arrival, the Quick Reaction Force established a secure perimeter to manage the chaotic scene while the Fire Fighting Team entered the affected structures.
The peacekeepers successfully evacuated nearly a dozen residents who were trapped by the smoke and flames, ensuring everyone was moved to a safe distance.
Medical personnel within the unit provided on-the-spot first aid to several injured civilians, treating them for minor burns and smoke inhalation. Their organized approach allowed for a thorough search of the buildings, confirming that no one was left behind as the fire was being fought.
The Indian troops played a pivotal role in coordinating the broader emergency response by guiding additional firefighting teams from the LAVA site directly to the heart of the blaze.
This seamless collaboration ensured that the fire was extinguished before it could claim any lives or inflict further property damage. This successful intervention underscores the high level of preparedness and the humanitarian mission of the Indian UN peacekeepers, who continue to serve as a vital protective force for civilians in high-risk areas.
