Delhi Airport Customs seizes hydroponic weed worth thousands from Phuket passenger
New Delhi, August 2: Customs officers at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi intercepted an international passenger attempting to smuggle 2,759 grams of suspected hydroponic weed. Acting on Advanced Passenger Information System profiling, the Air Intelligence Unit stopped the passenger who had arrived from Phuket aboard Air India flight AI 2377 after they crossed the Customs Green Channel.
A subsequent X-ray screening of the individual’s baggage revealed suspicious images, prompting a detailed physical inspection that led to the discovery of four vacuum-sealed packets containing the green substance.Following the recovery, officers arrested the traveler under Section 43(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
The suspected marijuana, along with its packaging material, was officially seized under Section 43(a) of the same act. Airport customs authorities confirmed that further investigations into the smuggling attempt are currently underway.
