Vice Admiral AN Pramod Assumes Charge as Deputy Chief of Naval Staff

NEW DELHI, August 1, 2026 — Vice Admiral AN Pramod, AVSM, YSM, officially assumed charge as the Deputy Chief of Naval Staff today. Over a distinguished career spanning more than 36 years, the flag officer has served in a wide range of operational, command, instructional, and staff appointments across the Indian Navy, both afloat and ashore.

His key sea commands include executive officer of INS Rajput, commanding officer of naval ships Abhay, Shardul, and Satpura, and fleet operations officer of the Western Fleet during Operation Snow Leopard. He also actively participated in Operation Vijay during the 1999 Kargil War and Operation Parakram in 2001.

Upon his elevation to the rank of Vice Admiral, he served as the Director General Naval Operations from December 2023 to July 2026. In that role, he was closely involved in directing the naval planning, operational readiness, and maritime security measures during Operation Sindoor as well as ongoing maritime security operations during the crisis in West Asia. His extensive operational background and strategic experience will guide the Navy’s staff and fleet operations moving forward.
