Udhampur Police seize 600 bottles of illegal liquor and arrest one bootlegger
UDHAMPUR, May 9, 2026 — In a significant crackdown on the smuggling of illicit spirits, the District Police Udhampur intercepted a large consignment of illegal liquor and apprehended one individual during a routine check.
A police team from the Udhampur Police Station, acting on specific intelligence, established a checkpoint at Krimchi where they stopped a vehicle with registration number JK11B-1631.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers discovered 50 boxes containing a total of 600 bottles of illicit liquor being transported without legal authorization.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Jagdish Raj, a resident of Patyan Ghar in Akhnoor, was arrested at the scene after he failed to produce valid documents for the cargo.
Following the seizure, the police registered a formal case under Section 48(a) of the Excise Act at the Udhampur Police Station.
Authorities have confirmed that a thorough investigation is currently underway to determine the origin of the contraband and identify any further links to local smuggling networks.
