Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Leads Massive Shukrana Yatra to Celebrate Landmark Anti-Sacrilege Legislation
Patiala, May 9, 2026:- Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann participated in a massive Shukrana Yatra today, visiting historic religious sites including Sri Anandpur Sahib and Gurdwara Sri Dukhnivaran Sahib to offer prayers of gratitude.
Addressing large gatherings at Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala Rural, Mann announced that the Jagat Jyoti Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Act 2026 has officially been cleared by both the Governor and the High Court. This stringent new law mandates life imprisonment without the possibility of bail for those found guilty of committing sacrilege or disrespecting holy scriptures.
The Chief Minister stated that while previous governments used religion to create divisions, his administration has fulfilled its promise to ensure the highest level of respect for Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
Despite the intense heat, thousands of supporters joined the procession, which Mann described as a testament to the people’s unwavering faith. He criticized political opponents for attempting to incite the public, asserting that their efforts to treat religion as a personal fiefdom would fail.
Beyond the new legislation, the Chief Minister highlighted his government’s welfare achievements, including the provision of over 65,000 merit-based jobs, the CM Sehat Yojana, and improved daytime electricity supply for farmers.
He concluded by praying for the continued prosperity and communal harmony of Punjab, reaffirming his commitment to the development of a vibrant and peaceful state.
