No ‘Jungle Raj’ in J&K: CM Omar Abdullah Vows to Maintain Peace Amid Ramban Tensions

SRINAGAR, April 14, 2026 — Chief Minister Omar Abdullah issued a stern warning on Tuesday, asserting that his administration will not tolerate any form of “jungle raj” or lawlessness within Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking to reporters in Bijbehara, the Chief Minister emphasized his government’s commitment to ushering in a fresh era of stability and peace.

He noted that while the majority of the population seeks progress, certain elements remain intent on inciting communal unrest and conflict. “As long as my government is in power, we will never allow these disruptive forces to sabotage the peaceful atmosphere we are building,” Abdullah stated, reaffirming that the security and harmony of the region remain his top priorities.

The Chief Minister’s remarks come in the wake of a tragic incident in the Ramban district, where a local youth, Tanveer Ahmad Chopan, disappeared after allegedly being forced into the Nallah Bishlari stream. Addressing the situation, CM Omar Abdullah urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to ensure that those responsible for the Ramban killing and the subsequent attempts to incite disorder face the strictest possible legal action. He stressed that a strong message must be sent to the public: that the current government has a zero-tolerance policy toward vigilantism and any attempts to bypass the rule of law.

On the ground in Ramban, a massive multi-agency search operation is currently underway to locate the missing youth. The intensive effort involves the Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local volunteers.

Authorities have already taken swift action by registering an FIR and arresting four suspects in connection with the case. To ensure a thorough and transparent probe, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed.

Senior officials, including DIG DKR Range Sargun Shukla, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan, and SSP Arun Gupta, have visited the site to supervise both the search operations and the ongoing investigation, signaling the government’s high-level commitment to justice.
