Kathua police arrest interstate smuggler with large consignment of heroin near international border
KATHUA, June 11 — Continuing its aggressive operations against drug trafficking under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir campaign, the Kathua Police have arrested an interstate drug smuggler and recovered approximately 550 grams of a heroin-like narcotic substance in the Rajbagh area.
The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma as part of an ongoing regional crackdown on the distribution of illicit synthetic drugs, locally known as chitta.Acting on precise intelligence received from reliable sources, a specialized police team led by the Station House Officer of Police Station Rajbagh, assisted by the In-Charge of Police Post Marheen, established a surprise checkpoint at Banyari.
During the operation, which was closely monitored by SP Operations Kathua and the Sub-Divisional Police Officer Border, the team intercepted a suspicious individual traveling from Punjab toward Marheen along the border road. The suspect was identified as Puppy, a resident of Kalichpur in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab.
A physical search of the suspect led to the discovery and immediate seizure of the substantial narcotic consignment. Law enforcement officials took the individual into custody on the spot and registered a criminal case under FIR No. 135/2026, invoking Sections 8, 21, and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at the Rajbagh Police Station.
