Jammu and Kashmir Police enhance forensic skills with two-day NAFIS fingerprint workshop
Jammu, April 18: The Jammu and Kashmir Police concluded a specialized two-day workshop focused on advanced forensic techniques at the District Police Lines in Jammu.
The program, titled Preparation of NAFIS Compliance, Good Quality Fingerprint Slips and Dealing with Chance Prints, ran from April 17 to April 18. This initiative was designed to modernize investigative procedures and improve the technical proficiency of personnel in the collection and processing of fingerprint evidence.
The training session saw the participation of 26 officers across various ranks, from Selection Grade Constables to Deputy Superintendents of Police.
Led by experts from the Fingerprint Bureau, including DySP Jagpal Sharma and Inspector Gurnam, the workshop provided a mix of theoretical lectures and hands-on practical exercises.
Key topics included the rigorous standards required for National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) compliance, the methodology for creating high-quality fingerprint records, and the delicate process of recovering chance prints from active crime scenes.
SSP Fingerprint Bureau, K PS Malhotra IPS, presided over the sessions and highlighted the increasing necessity of scientific evidence in contemporary law enforcement.
He noted that accurate fingerprint documentation serves as a cornerstone for successful crime detection and prosecution.
Coordinated by Inspector Farooq Ahmad Rather and Sub-Inspector Rajat, the event reflects a broader commitment by the force to integrate sophisticated forensic practices into daily policing through consistent professional development.
