Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister advocates for rigorous traffic law enforcement following Udhampur bus tragedy

UDHAMPUR, APRIL 22, 2026:-Chief Minister Omar Abdullah conducted a high-level visit to Government Medical College Udhampur on Wednesday to oversee the medical care provided to victims of a recent major bus accident.

Accompanied by Health Minister Sakina Itoo and Transport Minister Satish Sharma, the Chief Minister toured several specialized departments, including the Trauma Centre and Intensive Care Unit, to interact personally with the injured and their families.

During his assessment of the hospital’s facilities and treatment protocols, the Chief Minister issued a series of directives aimed at ensuring round-the-clock monitoring for all patients and the immediate disbursement of relief funds to those affected by the tragedy.

Beyond the immediate medical response, the Chief Minister used the visit to demand a structural shift in regional road safety, calling for the strict enforcement of traffic regulations across the Union Territory.

Chairing a review meeting with administrative and transport officials, he specifically ordered the Transport Department to eliminate overloading and increase the frequency of bus services on critical routes to prevent future accidents.

To support the victims during their recovery, the administration confirmed the release of financial assistance through both the Road Accident Victim Fund and the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, while further instructing departments to provide long-term assistance through various social welfare and education schemes.
