Garhwal Greeners Awarded Uttarakhand Chief Ministers Appreciation for Outstanding Afforestation Efforts

DEHRADUN, APRIL 25, 2026: The 127 Infantry Battalion TA (Eco) Garhwal, popularly known as the Garhwal Greeners, has been honored with the Uttarakhand Chief Minister’s Appreciation for the 2025–26 cycle.

This prestigious recognition celebrates the battalion’s exceptional dedication to ecological conservation and environmental restoration across the state. Over the past year, the unit successfully fulfilled its primary mandate by planting eight lakh saplings, contributing significantly to the green cover of the region.

The award underscores the battalion’s role as a vital force in the state’s mission to combat environmental degradation and promote sustainable forestry practices.In addition to meeting its official plantation targets, the Garhwal Greeners launched an extensive public outreach initiative under the campaign “Baghidari aur Zimmedari.”

This program focused on fostering a deep sense of environmental stewardship and responsibility among the general public, bridging the gap between military conservation efforts and community participation.

The Government of Uttarakhand highlighted that this accolade serves as a testament to the battalion’s hard work and unwavering commitment to preserving the state’s natural heritage.

By successfully combining technical afforestation with grassroots social engagement, the 127 Infantry Battalion continues to set a benchmark for ecological service within the territorial army.
