Doda Police Crack Down on Illegal Poppy Cultivation in Tipri; Two Booked Under NDPS Act

DODA, April 16, 2026:- In a major strike against the drug trade under the “Drug Free Doda” initiative, the Doda Police successfully dismantled illegal poppy cultivation sites in the Tipri area of Tehsil Thathri.

The operation was spearheaded by a police team following a patrol led by PSI Sahil Verma, who acted on specific intelligence regarding illicit farming in the high-altitude fields.

Upon verification, authorities confirmed that poppy crops were being grown in violation of the law by two local residents, identified as Nazir Ahmed, son of Gh. Mohd, and Tanveer Ahmed, son of Mohd Sadiq.

The crackdown has resulted in the registration of two separate cases at the Thathri Police Station, specifically FIR No. 28/2026 and FIR No. 29/2026, both under Section 8/18 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Doda Police, maintaining their People First approach, emphasized that these investigations are currently ongoing to root out further links to drug trafficking.

The department remains committed to taking uncompromising action against illegal cultivation to ensure a secure and healthy environment for the public, while urging community members to continue collaborating with law enforcement to keep the district free from narcotics.
