Department of Posts launches drone based mail transmission service in Himachal Pradesh

SHIMLA, June 14, 2026 :- Union Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia has announced the launch of a drone-based mail transmission service by the Department of Posts in Himachal Pradesh.

This initiative is specifically designed to overcome the severe terrain-related logistical challenges typical of the mountainous state. By deploying drone technology, the postal department will now enable real-time tracking of mail shipments while simultaneously providing an environmentally sustainable mode of transportation for regional logistics.

The technological deployment is expected to significantly enhance service delivery speeds and strengthen connectivity across remote and hilly regions.

By improving daily access to essential postal services for local communities, the drone initiative aims to foster greater social and economic inclusion in areas that have historically faced communication delays due to geographic isolation.
