CM Vijay Decries DMK Arrogance as TVK Government Wins Trust Vote in Assembly

CHENNAI, May 13, 2026 :- Chief Minister Tamil Nadu Joseph Vijay today secured a decisive victory in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, winning the floor test with 144 votes in his favor.

The confidence motion, conducted under the supervision of Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar, saw 22 votes against the government and five abstentions. While the DMK chose to stage a walkout, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government garnered crucial support from the Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK, and IUML.

Notably, 25 rebel AIADMK MLAs also broke ranks with their party leadership to support the Chief Minister, ensuring the administration surpassed the required majority mark of 118.

Following the victory, Chief Minister Vijay delivered a stinging response to the DMK, dismissing their criticisms as a reflection of political arrogance. Addressing the opposition’s claims regarding his mandate, he pointed out that while the TVK contested alone and secured a vote share of nearly 35%, the DMK’s individual vote share stood much lower at approximately 24% when stripped of its alliance partners.

He highlighted that over 1.72 crore citizens had voted for the TVK, outperforming the DMK by over 52 lakh votes. The Chief Minister remarked that those rejected by the majority of the state are in no position to lecture a government backed by a significant popular mandate.

The Chief Minister further assured the House that his administration would remain steadfastly secular and dedicated to social justice. Responding to allegations of horse-trading, he asserted that his government runs on “horse speed” rather than unethical practices and remains committed to the welfare of the common people.

He also confirmed that the government would continue beneficial schemes initiated by previous regimes to ensure administrative continuity.

The Assembly session was adjourned sine die following the announcement of the results, as the TVK begins its full five-year term with a strengthened legislative standing.
