CBI arrests railway senior section engineer in Assam for taking bribe

SILCHAR, June 14, 2026 :- The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Senior Section Engineer of Carriage and Wagon, Northeast Frontier Railway, based in Silchar, Assam, in connection with a bribery case. According to a press release from the Central Bureau of Investigation, the case was officially registered on June 13, 2026, following allegations made by a contractor.

The complainant stated that a bill totaling approximately Rs 20 Lakh for completed work was being withheld for clearance by the accused railway official. When the contractor requested the clearance of the pending bill on June 12, 2026, the engineer allegedly demanded a one percent commission of the total bill amount as an illegal gratification to process the payment.

Following the complaint, the Central Bureau of Investigation set up a trap and caught the official red-handed while he was demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the contractor.

The accused engineer has been taken into custody and is scheduled to be produced before the Competent Court in Guwahati today. Law enforcement authorities added that searches are currently underway at the residential premises of the accused as the investigation into the matter continues.
