JK Government Celebrates Success of Women Led Rural Transformation
SRINAGAR, May 13, 2026 — The Chief Minister praised the Rural Development Department and Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission, known as UMEED, for their significant contributions to changing the economic landscape of rural areas.
The mission has successfully brought over 8.10 lakh women into more than 96,000 self-help groups, creating a robust network for social and financial empowerment across the region.A major milestone in this initiative includes the facilitation of over 3,106 crore in bank credit, providing essential capital for local entrepreneurs.
This financial support has led to substantial individual growth, with more than 2.30 lakh women now earning annual incomes exceeding 1 lakh under the Lakhpati Didi initiative. This program continues to be a cornerstone of the effort to elevate household incomes through sustainable livelihood projects.
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also recognized these achievements, commending the Jammu and Kashmir administration for its dedication to inclusive development. He highlighted the region as a primary example of how women-led initiatives can drive meaningful rural transformation.
The continued progress of the UMEED mission reflects a broader commitment to ensuring that rural communities remain at the forefront of the regional economic agenda.
