LG Manoj Sinha visits Trehgam border village to launch development projects and review rural transformation progress
TREHGAM, May 13, 2026:- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited the Vibrant Village of Trehgam in Kupwara today to inaugurate several development initiatives and lay foundation stones for upcoming infrastructure projects.
During his visit, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted the central government’s commitment to the holistic development of border regions, noting that post-2019 efforts have focused on converting these areas into model villages through all-weather road connectivity, modern educational facilities, and expanded opportunities for local youth.
He inaugurated 26 smart classrooms across six vibrant blocks and laid the foundation for a new hilltop playground and the preservation of the historic local Shiv Temple, emphasizing that the administration is working to ensure border residents receive the same quality of services as those in urban centers.
Addressing a large public gathering, the Lieutenant Governor noted a significant surge in tourism in the district, with visitor numbers rising from 6,900 in 2018-19 to over 377,000 in the 2024-25 period.
He detailed the rapid progress in basic utilities, pointing out that grid power now reaches 95% of households in the region, up from 70% four years ago, while telecom connectivity has reached 88%.
The Vibrant Village Phase-2 program was also outlined, focusing on livelihood security through cooperatives and self-help groups, digital connectivity, and the full saturation of government schemes.
As part of the visit, appointment letters were handed over to local youth and Special Police Officers, further reinforcing the administration’s goal of linking border communities to the national mainstream through sustainable economic growth and improved quality of life.
