LG Manoj Sinha Pledges to Dismantle Drug Syndicates; Vows to Seize Every Rupee of Narcotics Trade
SRINAGAR, MAY 12, 2026 — Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today intensified the “Drug-Free Jammu Kashmir” campaign by participating in a massive Padyatra in Baramulla and announcing two strategic initiatives set to run for the next 69 days: the Community Immunization Program and the Family Fortress Initiative. Drawing a parallel to medical vaccinations, the Lieutenant Governor explained that the Community Immunization pillar will partner with religious leaders and social organizations to create “social immunity” against narcotics in 5–10 high-risk hotspots per district.
He urged schools, mosques, temples, and NGOs to dedicate one hour weekly to awareness efforts, which will serve as an early warning system to monitor and eventually transform these hotspots into drug-free zones.
Simultaneously, the Family Fortress Initiative seeks to leverage the region’s strong domestic bonds by mandating weekly honest dialogues on drug prevention at every educational and religious institution across the Union Territory.
Highlighting the campaign’s massive momentum, LG Sinha revealed that over 235,000 outreach events have been conducted in the past month alone, reaching thousands through OPD treatments and counseling services like Tele-MANAS.
The administration has adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward the drug supply chain, leading to the arrest of nearly 700 smugglers and the seizure of properties worth crores.
Enforcement measures have also seen the recommendation for cancellation of hundreds of driving licenses and vehicle registrations linked to traffickers, alongside the installation of 3,000 CCTV cameras at pharmacies to curb illegal sales.
Emphasizing a science-based and compassionate approach, the Lieutenant Governor called for the rehabilitation of addicts with dignity—likening the struggle to treating chronic illnesses—while vowing to dismantle the financial infrastructure of drug cartels to safeguard the future of the youth.
