Indian Nationals on MV Hondius Evacuated to Netherlands Amid Hantavirus Outbreak
MADRID, May 11, 2026:- The Dutch-flagged vessel MV Hondius, carrying approximately 150 individuals, arrived in Spain following a reported Hantavirus outbreak. Among those on board were two Indian nationals serving as crew members.
Due to health concerns, the ship anchored off the coast of the Canary Islands, where passengers disembarked under strict protocols established by the World Health Organization and Spanish authorities.
According to the Spanish National Center for Emergency Monitoring and Coordination, the two Indian crew members remain healthy and are currently asymptomatic.
They have been evacuated to the Netherlands to undergo a mandatory quarantine period in alignment with health safety regulations.
The Indian Ambassador in Madrid is maintaining close communication with Spanish officials and the individuals involved to monitor their well-being and ensure their continued safety.
