Udhampur Police Book Woman for VPN Usage as Crackdown on Prohibitory Orders Continues
UDHAMPUR, JAMMU & KASHMIR | January 21, 2026In a continuing effort to enforce digital compliance and maintain regional security, the Udhampur Police have booked another individual for violating the District Magistrate’s prohibitory orders regarding the use of Virtual Private Network (VPN) services.
The accused has been identified as Rekha Devi, a resident of Mand East in Tehsil and District Udhampur. According to official sources, the violation was detected during a routine verification process where her mobile device was found to be actively using VPN services, directly breaching the specific restrictions currently in place across the district.
A formal case has been registered against the violator at Police Station Rehambal under FIR No. 13/2026, invoking Section 223(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
This legal action follows the strict implementation of District Magistrate Udhampur’s Order No. DMU/JC/1872, issued earlier this month on January 3, 2026, which explicitly prohibits the use of VPN applications within the district’s jurisdiction.
Authorities have confirmed that a detailed investigation into the matter is underway to ensure full adherence to the administrative directive.Udhampur Police have issued a fresh appeal to the general public, urging residents to refrain from using VPNs and other prohibited applications on their mobile phones.
The administration emphasized that strict compliance with these orders is essential for public safety and the maintenance of law and order in the region.
Citizens are reminded that the ban is part of a broader strategy to prevent the misuse of digital tools and that any further violations will be met with swift legal consequences.
