Kulgam Anti-Terror operation enters 10th Day as forces tighten cordon

Srinagar, Aug 10:The intense anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district continued for the 10th consecutive day on Sunday, with security forces working to tighten the cordon around the hiding terrorists.

Officials stated that the operation remains ongoing, with troops attempting to close in on the militants’ positions. Authorities revealed that the terrorists, believed to be highly trained in jungle warfare, are using dense forest cover to evade drone surveillance. Since the encounter began on August 1 in the Akhal forest area, two Army soldiers have lost their lives, while nine others have sustained injuries, making this one of the longest-running anti-terror operations in the Kashmir Valley in recent years.

So far, two terrorists have been neutralized, though their identities and group affiliations remain unconfirmed. Senior security officials, including Jammu and Kashmir Police chief Nalin Prabhat and Army’s Northern Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, are overseeing the operation round-the-clock.

Drones, helicopters, and para commandos have been deployed to track and neutralize the remaining terrorists in the challenging forest terrain. The prolonged operation highlights the difficulties faced by security forces in the region’s rugged and densely vegetated landscape.
