Lieutenant Governor reviews preparations for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 at high level Pahalgam meeting

SRINAGAR, June 25, 2026 – Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a high-level meeting at Pahalgam to review the comprehensive preparations for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026, which is scheduled to commence on July 3.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor and CEO of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board Mandeep K Bhandari, Commissioner Secretary of the Youth Services and Sports Department and Nodal Officer for the Pahalgam Axis Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg, IGP Kashmir VK Birdi, IGP Traffic Jammu and Kashmir M. Suleman Choudhary, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat, SSP Anantnag Amod Nagpure Ashok, and other senior officers of the civil administration, police, and security forces.

During the session, the Lieutenant Governor held a detailed review of all key sectors, including logistics, lodging, healthcare facilities, sanitation, power and water supply, civic amenities, road connectivity, RFID cards, functioning of joint control rooms, track maintenance, the construction of footbridges, langar setups, holding areas, traffic management, and multi-layered security arrangements.

The Lieutenant Governor directed all departments and agencies to ensure seamless arrangements, foolproof security, and a memorable experience for the pilgrims. Emphasizing a hybrid planning approach with an absolute zero-tolerance policy for operational lapses, he instructed officials to aggressively mitigate risks associated with high altitudes, harsh weather, and extreme crowd density.

He ordered the establishment of weather-based evacuation protocols, the strategic deployment of Mountain Response Teams at critical intervals, and rigorous quality inspections for transit tents, which must be equipped with functional fire extinguishers.

Additionally, he highlighted the use of real-time crowd analysis to clear track choke points and the enforcement of robust traffic management plans and designated parking zones to guarantee the uninterrupted transportation of essential supplies.

The Border Roads Organisation was specifically instructed to complete all allotted works before the commencement of the pilgrimage.To ensure the convenience of both pilgrims and service providers, the Lieutenant Governor directed that transit camps and halt points must have trained manpower alongside reliable water and power supplies, urging regular work monitoring and on-ground inspections to resolve gaps immediately.

During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag briefed the attendees on the overall preparations for a smooth annual pilgrimage, while the Senior Superintendent of Police delivered a detailed presentation on the multi-layered security framework designed to safeguard devotees along the entire route.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, the Lieutenant Governor stated that the Jammu Kashmir Administration, Police, Security Forces, Government of India, and the Shrine Board have finalized all preparations to ensure a safe and spiritually enriching experience, adding that local residents and stakeholders are eager to welcome pilgrims arriving from across the nation.
