Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Hits 180 kmph: Indian Railways Completes Landmark CRS High-Speed Trials
New Delhi December 31, 2025:- Indian Railways has achieved a historic milestone in indigenous rail technology with the successful completion of the high-speed trials for the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train.
Under the rigorous supervision of the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), the 16-coach rake reached a peak speed of 180 kmph on the Kota-Nagda section. The trials included comprehensive technical evaluations of ride stability, oscillation behavior, and braking performance.
Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw celebrated the success by sharing a “water-glass stability” demonstration, where water remained steady in glasses even at top speeds, showcasing the train’s superior suspension and smooth ride quality.
Designed for premium long-distance travel, the Vande Bharat Sleeper is packed with world-class amenities and cutting-edge safety features. The train is fully integrated with the KAVACH anti-collision system and features crashworthy, jerk-free couplers to ensure passenger safety.
Internally, the coaches offer a significant upgrade in comfort with ergonomically designed ladders for upper berths, UV-C lamp-based disinfection in air conditioning units, and specialized lavatories for Divyangjan passengers.
To enhance the travel experience, the rake is equipped with centrally controlled automatic plug doors, fully sealed wider gangways, and an emergency talk-back system for direct communication with the train manager.
The technological robustness of this new-generation train extends to advanced fire safety and monitoring systems. Each coach features aerosol-based fire detection and a centralized monitoring system for lighting and climate control.
By utilizing a regenerative braking system, the train also achieves high energy efficiency, aligning with India’s sustainable transport goals. This successful CRS trial marks the final technical hurdle before the Vande Bharat Sleeper officially enters commercial service, representing a giant leap forward for the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative in the railway sector.
