Udhampur Police Arrest Drug Peddler and Seize Ganja at Phalata

UDHAMPUR June 18,2026 :- Udhampur Police apprehended a suspected drug peddler and recovered a commercial quantity of contraband during a routine checking operation at Nakka Phalata. A police team deployed at the checkpoint intercepted a motorcyclist riding a vehicle with registration number JK14K/7854.

Upon being signaled to stop, the rider attempted to flee the scene but was quickly chased down and secured by the alert police personnel. The arrested individual has been identified as Rajat Kumar, a resident of Mongrali Jib in the Udhampur Tehsil and District.

During the search, police personnel recovered 343.75 grams of Ganja from the possession of the accused. Following the recovery, a case under FIR Number 145/2026 under Sections 8 and 20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act was formally registered, leading to the immediate arrest of the individual. Further investigation into the forward and backward linkages of the case is currently underway.

Officials reiterated that this operation is part of the department’s intensified crackdown against drug syndicates under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan and Drugs Free Udhampur campaigns, combining strict law enforcement with community awareness to safeguard the youth from substance abuse.
