Suvendu Adhikari Personal Assistant Shot Dead in Madhyamgram

MADHYAMGRAM, May 7, 2026 — Chandranath Rath, a long-time personal assistant to West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was shot and killed in Madhyamgram just two days after the party secured a historic victory in the assembly elections.

Rath, who was a key figure in Adhikari’s inner circle and managed his political coordination, was traveling in a car when suspects followed the vehicle and opened fire as it slowed down.

He was struck by three of the four bullets fired, leaving the front window of the car riddled with bullet holes.Following the attack, Suvendu Adhikari rushed to the hospital in Madhyamgram where the body was being held.

The driver of the vehicle, Buddhadeb, also sustained injuries during the shooting and was transported to a medical facility for treatment. The incident occurred within the North 24 Parganas district near Kolkata, sparking immediate concern over political safety in the region following the election results.

Dibyendu Adhikari, the BJP leader’s brother, confirmed that Suvendu Adhikari was not present in the vehicle at the time of the shooting. He has called for a formal investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation to determine the motive and identifies of those responsible.
