Srinagar Meteorological Department Issues Weather Advisory for Rain and Hailstorms in Jammu and Kashmir

SRINAGAR, May 4 — The Meteorological Department in Srinagar has issued a weather update predicting intermittent spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers across most parts of Jammu and Kashmir today.

The forecast indicates that several areas may also experience hailstorms and gusty winds, leading to a temporary shift in local weather conditions.

On May 5, brief spells of rain and thunder are expected to continue at scattered locations, while the period from May 6 to May 9 is projected to remain generally dry.

In response to the shifting weather patterns, an official advisory has been issued warning of potential lightning, hailstorms, and winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour in both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions.

Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution, specifically advising against boating and shikara riding activities for the duration of the day.

Residents are also encouraged to stay away from loose structures, electric wires, and poles to ensure safety during the high-wind periods.

The department highlighted that these weather disturbances are part of a brief cycle before more stable conditions return later in the week.

By emphasizing precautionary measures, the administration aims to minimize risks associated with sudden thunderstorms and lightning.

Travelers and locals are encouraged to stay informed of further updates as the weather develops over the next 48 hours.
