Security Forces Bust Terrorist Hideout in Poonch, Recover Large Cache of Ammunition in Joint Operation

POONCH, August 05, 2026 — In a major breakthrough against anti-national elements, security forces recovered a significant stash of arms and ammunition during a meticulously planned search operation in the Surankote area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding hidden war-like stores, a joint team comprising the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Army’s Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a targeted cordon and search operation in the dense terrain of Hari village.

The intensive search of the suspect area yielded substantial recoveries that prevented a potential security threat in the region. Among the materials seized by the joint teams were 117 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition, 17 live rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition, and two empty AK-47 magazines.

The recovered cache was immediately confiscated by the security personnel, and the entire perimeter was thoroughly swept to ensure no further explosive materials or arms were concealed nearby.Officials emphasized that the timely recovery has effectively thwarted potential nefarious plans by militant handlers to disturb peace and stability in the sensitive border region.

Security forces have registered a case regarding the recovery, and a detailed investigation has been initiated to trace the origins of the cache and identify the individuals or terror networks involved in hoarding these munitions. Search operations in the surrounding forested belts of Surankote have been further intensified as a precautionary measure.
