Heavy Rain and Thundershowers Forecast Across Jammu and Kashmir Through Mid August

SRINAGAR, Aug 5 — Jammu and Kashmir recorded heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours, with Kathua receiving 81 mm, Udhampur 66.6 mm, Katra 51 mm, and Samba 47 mm.

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast continued precipitation across many regions of the union territory in the coming days, featuring intermittent spells of light to moderate rain along with localized intense heavy showers.

For August 5, weather officials predict light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places, particularly during early morning, afternoon, and evening hours, with brief heavy downpours expected in a few districts. Unsettled conditions will persist from August 6 to 8, with light to moderate showers likely across multiple locations.

Rain activity is expected to intensify between August 9 and 11, bringing heavy rainfall and intense spells to most places, before tapering off to light rain and thundershowers from August 12 to 15.

The weather office has issued a official advisory warning of heavy rainfall and brief intense downpours on August 5 and during the August 9 to 11 period. Authorities cautioned that torrential rains could trigger flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas, advising residents and travelers to exercise heightened caution.
