Jal Shakti Minister Javed Ahmed Rana Chairs High-Level Jal Jeevan Mission Review Meeting in Srinagar
SRINAGAR, AUGUST 4 — Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, convened a high-level review meeting at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar to evaluate the ongoing execution of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and resolve critical operational bottlenecks across Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting focused on accelerating project timelines, streamlining administrative procedures, and ensuring robust financial flow to achieve universal tap water access across rural and urban communities in the Union Territory. Key administrators, including the Managing Director of the Jal Jeevan Mission and the Director of Finance for JJM, participated in the deliberations to present progress updates and address implementation challenges.
During the session, Minister Rana stressed the critical necessity of removing procedural hurdles to prevent any disruption in fund flow for active water supply schemes. He instructed officials to expedite fund classification and issue work-specific releases without delay, noting that steady financial allocation at the execution level is essential to maintaining momentum. Beyond fund flow, Rana mandated a thorough audit of the operational checklists across all completed water infrastructure. He reiterated that infrastructure development must translate into reliable service delivery, directing officers to ensure every completed project delivers uninterrupted, safe drinking water to residents.
The review also tackled contractor concerns regarding security deposit releases and evaluated the UT’s progress under the Har Ghar Jal certification drive. Managing Director of JJM clarified that all security deposit requests received by the Mission Directorate are being processed promptly with zero backlog. Addressing the certification targets, Rana called for seamless, multi-departmental coordination among district administrations, implementing agencies, and Gram Panchayats. He instructed field officers to enforce strict timeframes for verification, ensuring that eligible villages receive Har Ghar Jal certification swiftly as the administration works toward complete coverage.
