Scorching Heatwave Grips Jammu and Kashmir; Orange Alert Issued for June 11-12

JAMMU June 10,2026:- The intense heatwave continues to batter the Jammu division, turning the region into a virtual furnace with blistering sunshine and severe loo conditions.

According to the Meteorological Department (MeT), Jammu’s maximum temperature crossed the $42^\circ\text{C}$ mark by Wednesday morning itself, hovering 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above the seasonal normal. Meanwhile, Srinagar is also experiencing uncharacteristic heat, with the mercury hitting $33^\circ\text{C}$—a significant 4 to 5 degrees Celsius above average.

Safety Advisory and Incoming Weather Relief

There is no immediate respite expected from the scorching heat until Wednesday evening. In light of the severe weather, the MeT department has advised residents to stay hydrated, consume cold beverages, and avoid stepping out into direct sunlight during peak hours.

However, a welcome change in weather is on the horizon. The weather department has predicted a shift starting tomorrow, issuing an Orange Alert for both the Jammu and Kashmir divisions for June 11 and 12. During these two days, the region is expected to witness strong winds, thunderstorms, and light to moderate rainfall in isolated areas, which will likely bring much-needed relief from the prevailing heatwave.
