National Investigation Agency arrests two accused in Malda pre-poll violence cases
NEW DELHI, June 5, 2026—As per the official press release in 1001649471.jpg, the National Investigation Agency has arrested two more accused persons in connection with the pre-poll Special Intensive Revision related violence and protests in the Malda district of West Bengal.
The accused, identified as Maulana Imran Ali and Rinku SK, were taken into custody across two distinct cases during searches conducted by agency teams. The probe revealed that the duo actively participated in unlawful assemblies that resorted to violence, intimidation, and obstruction during the electoral rolls revision exercise.
They are accused of illegal detention of judicial officers, blockading a National Highway, disrupting law and order, and launching violent attacks on police personnel deployed on official duty.The investigation, which was launched following directives from the Supreme Court after it took suo moto cognizance of the April violence in Malda, covers a total of 12 registered cases.
According Press note , chargesheets have already been filed in four of these cases, while the latest arrests pertain to separate cases within the ongoing probe. The violent mob protests resulted in injuries to several police personnel, including an incident where a police bus driver sustained grievous injuries after being struck on the head with a stone, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
With these latest apprehensions, a total of 35 accused are currently in judicial custody as the federal agency continues its efforts to identify other individuals involved and uncover the larger conspiracy behind the regional unrest.
