Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dismisses Claims of LPG Supply Shortage in India

New Delhi, April 16, 2026 – The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has clarified that recent media reports suggesting India’s LPG supply could take four years to recover are misleading and do not reflect the actual supply position.

To ensure stability, the government has diversified its procurement by securing 800 TMT of import cargoes from the United States, Norway, Canada, Algeria, and Russia. Furthermore, a directive issued on March 9, 2026, required refineries to maximize yields, which successfully increased domestic daily production by 40 percent to 50 TMT. Despite a total daily requirement of 80 TMT, the ministry confirmed that 50 lakh cylinders were delivered daily throughout March without any reported stock-outs at distributorships.

The booking-to-delivery cycle remains stable at five to six days, supported by a distribution network that has grown to 25,607 distributors and 33.39 crore connections over the last decade. Officials have identified these false claims as part of a coordinated misinformation campaign intended to cause panic and have advised citizens to trust only verified information from official sources
