Iltija Mufti leads protest in Srinagar against removal of Urdu as mandatory revenue language

SRINAGAR, April 28, 2026:- Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party leader Iltija Mufti staged a protest in Srinagar today to voice strong opposition against the government decision to remove Urdu as the mandatory language for revenue records.

During the demonstration, the party leader described the move as a direct attack on the linguistic heritage of the region. She emphasized that Urdu has historically been central to both the administrative functioning and the cultural identity of Jammu and Kashmir, serving as a vital link for institutional continuity over many decades.

The protest highlighted concerns that altering the linguistic requirements for official documentation could lead to significant administrative disruptions and alienate the local population.

Iltija Mufti warned that such policy changes risk weakening the connection between the people and the government institutions that serve them.

By advocating for the preservation of Urdu in official records, the party remains focused on maintaining the cultural and administrative traditions that define the region’s unique identity.
