The high-level meeting was attended by senior officials including the Managing Director of JPDCL, the DIG JSK Range, the DIG Traffic Jammu Zone, the Commissioner of JMC Jammu, the Deputy Commissioner of Jammu, the SSP Jammu, and various directors and chief engineers from executive agencies.
During the session, the Divisional Commissioner took stock of ongoing infrastructure upgrades designed to provide a hassle-free stay for pilgrims before they depart for the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps, setting a strict deadline of June 15 for all repair and renovation works.
Stakeholder departments were directed to install additional water coolers, backup generator sets, German hangars, and water taps in community kitchen areas, while also augmenting cloakroom facilities, sanitation, illumination, and medical readiness with dedicated doctors, ambulances, and medicine stocks.
In a major administrative shift to relieve traffic congestion and crowding at the local railway station, officials announced that this year’s token center for on-spot registration and RFID distribution will be established at the Tawi River Front.
To facilitate a smooth registration process at the new site, the Divisional Commissioner ordered the installation of German hangars, drinking water facilities, toilet blocks, and barricading for efficient queue management, alongside providing specialized vehicles to ferry pilgrims between the Tawi River Front and the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas.
Additionally, a separate Nodal Officer will be designated for the riverfront site, where the Director of Health Services has been tasked with setting up a five-bed medical facility. To enhance the overall experience for visitors, the administration is installing informational display boards and signages to guide pilgrims toward tourist attractions, while introducing an hourly bus service on identified routes for sightseeing.
Inspector General Bhim Sen Tuti directed officers to ensure proper accommodation arrangements for arriving paramilitary companies and emphasized seamless coordination between security forces and the civil administration to guarantee a secure and smooth pilgrimage, coupled with a meticulous traffic regulation plan and city-wide beautification to give Jammu a vibrant, festive look.
