Cloudburst Damages Property in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar District

JAMMU, Aug 1, 2026 :- A midnight cloudburst in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district triggered a sudden surge of water and debris, damaging several homes and buildings in the early hours of Saturday.

The incident occurred around 2:30 AM following continuous heavy rainfall in the region. Despite the significant structural damage and widespread panic among local residents, officials confirmed that no casualties or injuries have been reported so far.Local police and civil administration officials, led by the Station House Officer of Chatroo, arrived at the scene shortly after the event to evaluate the damage and initiate relief operations.

Emergency teams are currently clearing debris and assisting affected families while keeping a close watch on the situation.The flash flood follows warnings from the Meteorological Department regarding intense rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir.

The downpour has created dangerous conditions in several parts of the region. In a separate incident on Saturday morning, heavy rain caused severe waterlogging in the Pahlipora area of Shopian in south Kashmir, forcing rainwater into several homes and prompting State Disaster Response Force teams to assist local residents. Authorities continue to advise people living near rivers, streams, and landslide-prone slopes to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel until weather conditions improve.
