Chennai Airport anti hijacking mock drill tests multi agency response
CHENNAI, June 16, 2026 :- The Central Industrial Security Force conducted a major anti-hijacking mock exercise at the Chennai International Airport to test and enhance aviation security protocols. The high-level drill was supervised by Tamil Nadu Joint Home Secretary J.
Anne Mary Swarna and Central Industrial Security Force Deputy Inspector General R. Ponni, alongside senior officials from multiple participating stakeholder organizations.The security exercise simulated a highly realistic aircraft takeover scenario, even incorporating an airport bus to accurately recreate complex operational conditions on the tarmac.
A massive contingent of 339 personnel took part in the coordinated operation, drawing specialized teams from the Central Industrial Security Force, local police, Airports Authority of India, commercial airlines, airport fire services, and air traffic control. National defense and security wings, including the Indian Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, and the state administration, also deployed personnel to the exercise.
The successful joint operation demonstrated a high level of tactical preparedness, operational readiness, and seamless inter-agency coordination among all participants. Regular mock drills of this scale are considered vital by security experts to strengthen defenses against potential hijacking threats, sharpen emergency response capabilities, and refine strategic communication lines between distinct agencies tasked with managing evolving aviation security challenges.
