Ashwini Vaishnaw Flags Off Dohrighat-Aunrihar Train to Boost Purvanchal Rail Connectivity
NEW DELHI, May 11, 2026 — Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw virtually flagged off the new Dohrighat-Aunrihar passenger train service on Monday, significantly enhancing affordable and safe transport for the Mau and Ghazipur districts. During the ceremony, Vaishnaw announced that this daily service will soon be extended to Varanasi, providing direct access to the region’s primary cultural and commercial hub for students, traders, and pilgrims. Highlighting the government’s commitment to the Purvanchal region, the Minister also promised a new express train connecting Chhapra to Delhi via Mau, Azamgarh, and Lucknow, while noting that railway investment in Uttar Pradesh has surged to approximately ₹20,012 crore.
The newly launched 8-coach passenger train will serve key halts including Sadat, Jakhanian, Mau, and Ghosi, utilizing the recently converted broad-gauge line that replaced the historic 1904 metre-gauge track. Vaishnaw emphasized that this project is part of a broader infrastructure overhaul, including the development of 157 Amrit Bharat stations and a massive four-line corridor north of the Ganga. Furthermore, the Minister shared ambitious plans for a Bullet Train corridor in Uttar Pradesh, which aims to connect Delhi to Varanasi in just over three and a half hours, ensuring high-speed connectivity remains accessible to the middle class while supporting the vision of a developed India.
