Amritsar Police Bust Cross-Border Drug Ring; Two Arrested with 8.378 Kg Heroin and Cash

AMRITSAR, Punjab — July 10, 2026 — In a major breakthrough against international drug trafficking, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has successfully busted a prominent cross-border narcotics smuggling network. During the targeted operation, law enforcement officials apprehended two key suspects and recovered a substantial consignment of 8.378 kilograms of heroin, alongside ₹2 lakh in suspected drug money.

A preliminary investigation into the racket revealed that the arrested individuals were operating directly under the instructions of an overseas, cross-border smuggler. The duo was tasked with collecting illicit heroin consignments from various designated locations and transporting them for further distribution across different districts in Punjab.

Following the successful operation, formal First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered at the Chheharta and Islamabad police stations in Amritsar. A comprehensive, ongoing investigation is currently underway to establish both backward and forward linkages, identify all local and international associates involved, and completely dismantle the illicit supply chain. The operation underscores the Punjab Police’s steadfast commitment to breaking cross-border drug trafficking networks and ensuring a safe, drug-free state.
