Amritsar police arrest two more in major cross border drug smuggling network

AMRITSAR, June 14, 2026 — Following up on forward and backward linkages from an ongoing cross-border drug smuggling investigation, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police arrested two additional suspects and seized 5.041 kilograms of heroin during two separate operations.

These arrests follow an earlier breakthrough in the same case where six individuals, including three juveniles, were apprehended with 30.045 kilograms of heroin.

By pursuing investigative leads, police teams uncovered deeper network connections, leading to the arrest of one suspect with 2.006 kilograms of heroin and another with 3.035 kilograms of heroin.

Investigations revealed that the accused were operating in connection with a Dubai-based smuggler who allegedly facilitated the supply of heroin consignments across the border.

A formal case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at the Chheharta Police Station in Amritsar.

Law enforcement officials are continuing their investigations to fully map out the operational network, identify remaining associates, trace the financial trail, and uncover potential hawala connections to dismantle the trafficking ring entirely.
