Indian Navy warships Udaygiri and Kavaratti arrive in Vietnam to strengthen maritime ties

New Delhi June 23, 2026 :- The Indian Navy stealth frigate INS Udaygiri and anti-submarine warfare corvette INS Kavaratti arrived at Nha Rong Port in Ho Chi Minh City on June 22 as part of their operational deployment to the Southeast Asia region.

The indigenously designed and built warships, led by Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet Rear Admiral Alok Ananda, received a warm ceremonial welcome from the Vietnam People’s Navy, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, and local port authorities. This reception highlights the enduring connection and expanding maritime collaboration between the two nations.

During their stay, personnel from both navies will participate in professional interactions, cross-deck exchanges, sports fixtures, and community outreach events. Scheduled meetings between senior leadership will also provide a platform to discuss strategic perspectives and enhance bilateral naval cooperation.

This visit represents the first major deployment by the Indian Navy to Vietnam since the two countries upgraded their bilateral relationship to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in May 2026.
